Saving Comparison Results in a File

Postby volukhov » Wed May 06, 2015 6:22 pm

Could PilotEdit create a comparison result file that is going to show line-by-line differences between the files? As far as I understand, function Copy All the Different Lines is only capable of capturing differences from one file, but not both.

Hi,

It is not supported by PilotEdit.
Why do you need this feature?

Thanks,
Ray

I love the fact that you can compare huge files, which is why I bought this, but this feature would be extremely important to me for QA test results. All compare tools do that.

Hi,

I have added it to our feature list.
Do you have any special requirement for this feature?

Thanks,
Ray

Basically what would be great is on the compare screen, being able to filter out only the differences (an option to hide identical records). Then, being able to save the differences.

Hi,

PilotEdit doesn't provide the ability to filter out only the differences (an option to hide identical records).
But you can find all the different blocks with PilotEdit. Please refer to the picture below.

We will try to export comparison results as below:
[Flag][Line Index of the Left File]Line Content of the Left File<<>>[Line Index of the Right File]Line Content of the Right File

Here is the definitions of flags:
[Y] means identical lines
[N] means different lines
[L] means the line only in the left file
[R] means the line only in the right file

For the above example, the following content will be exported.
[Y][1]TEXT1<<>>[1]TEXT1
[L][2]TEXT2<<>>[]
[Y][3]TEXT3<<>>[2]TEXT3
[R][]<<>>[3]TEXT4
[Y][4]TEXT5<<>>[4]TEXT5
[N][5]TEXT6<<>>[5]TEXT8
[Y][6]TEXT7<<>>[6]TEXT7
[Y][7]TEXT8<<>>[7]TEXT8
[Y][8]TEXT9<<>>[8]TEXT9

If you want to export as other formats, you can change the content with PilotEdit scripts.

Please let me know if it is ok for you.

Thanks,
Ray
